Marc Chagall

Marc Chagall was born in Russia in 1887. After studying painting in St. Petersburg he moved to Paris in 1910 where he befriended the avant-garde circle of poets and artists.

He loved printmaking and throughout his career he created exquisite lithographs which were deeply rooted in his memories of Jewish life, Russian folklore and the Bible. He went on to become one of the major figures of 20th Century art and died in 1985 at the age of 97.
