Joan Miro

Joan Miro was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1893. From his mid 20s he spent much of his time in Paris where he became associated with the surrealist movement. He developed his own visual vocabulary of mysterious symbols, marks and vivid colours and hugely influenced the direction of abstraction and 20th Century modern art.

Miro was a master of printmaking and loved the technique of lithography. in 1954 he was awarded the Venice Bienalle print making prize. Miro died in 1983.
