David Hockney

David Hockney was born in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1937. He attended Bradford School of Art (1953-57) and Royal College of Art (1959-62) where he was awarded a Gold Medal and The Guinness Award for Etching. 

Hockney gained international success from his mid-twenties and spent time working in London, Paris and California, before finally settling in Los Angeles in 1977. He has had a continuous stream of one-man exhibitions around the world and his work is held in numerous public collections including The Tate Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum, Arts Council and Art Institute of Chicago.

A brilliant draughtsman, he has enjoyed printmaking throughout his distinguished career and is the best known British artist of his generation. David Hockney was elected RA in 1991.
