Etchings by David Hockney

David Hockney

David Hockney, born on the 9th July 1937 in Bradford, is one of Britain’s most celebrated artists.

Hockney gained international success from his mid-twenties and spent time working in London, Paris and California, before finally settling in Los Angeles in 1977. His work is held in numerous public collections including The Tate Gallery, Victoria and Albert Museum, Arts Council and Art Institute of Chicago.

A brilliant draughtsman, he has enjoyed printmaking throughout his distinguished career and is the best known British artist of his generation.

Hockney’s connection to Bradford is significant, especially as the city prepares to be the UK City of Culture in 2025. The industrial landscapes of his hometown shaped his early work, and Bradford continues to celebrate his artistic legacy.

As the city gears up for cultural celebrations, Hockney’s influence remains a source of pride and inspiration for its thriving artistic community.

Hockney’s Brothers Grimm collection is a series of etchings created in 1969, inspired by the dark and fantastical world of the Grimm fairy tales. The collection features 39 black-and-white etchings, capturing the eerie and surreal qualities of these stories through Hockney’s unique artistic lens.
