Norman Adams RA

Just arrived…..a lovely watercolour from 1958 by Norman Adams RA. ‘Clouds over Swaledale’ was painted shortly after Adams had moved his residence and studio to The Yorkshire Dales. This proximity to the Yorkshire landscape, to which he had such an affinity, enabled him to create some of his finest works.

Norman Adams was born in 1927 and studied at Harrow School of Art and The Royal College of Art, London. His first solo exhibition was with the London dealers Gimpel Fils in 1950. He was elected a member of The Royal Academy in 1972 and an honorary member of the Royal Watercolour Society in 1987. Norman Adams died in 2005 and his work is held in many public institutions including The Tate.
