
Anthony Gross (1905-1984) was born in London and studied at The Slade, London and the Academie Julien, Paris. He had his first one man show at the Leicester Galleries in 1934, after which he had several dozen one-man shows in Britain and abroad. He was an outstanding etcher and wrote an authoritative book on Etching, Engraving and intaglio Printing.
The Victoria and Albert Museum gave him a major retrospective in 1968 and he was elected Royal Academician in 1980. He died in 1984.
